Subject: [SLE] SUSE first time -- issues with TV Tuner/DVD+RW...
Date: Tue, 5 Apr 2005 19:36:39 -0700
Hi,
I recently installed SUSE 9.2 from one of the FTP mirrors. It's a
multi-boot system with Fedora, Suse and Windows.
I am from RedHat/Fedora background and this is my first time
experience with SUSE.
I liked the way SUSE has customized the KDE environment. My desktop
now looks much better than my Fedora 3 system
However I am having following issues. (All of these are working properly in
FC3)
1. TV Tuner
My Hauppage WinTV GO card is detected by Yast during install. But it
cannot configure it properly.
I can't see any channel. No signal is detected. FC3 system had
configured it using bttv driver with card=78 and tuner=2.
So in Yast's TV configuration module I tried setting these values for
card and tuner through expert settings, but nothing worked.
Any idea on howto enable this card?
2. DVD+-RW
I have Lite-On dual layer DVD+-RW driver with a USB 2.0 external
enclosure. When I connect the drive, it's detected properly but system
does not mount it automatically.
No entry is created under /media and konqueror does not list it under
devices. But system does auto mount my external HDD.
To access the DVD+RW drive, I have to scan through dmesg output, get
the device string(e.g. /dev/sr0) and manually mount it as root.
Also strangely K3B can show the drive when connected without any manual
mount.
3. Video Player
Kaffine, noatun and xine provided with the SUSE are not abe to play
many of my video files (Xvid, Divx5, etc).
All of these are played properly using VLC and/or mplayer on my FC3 system.
Where can I find these player for SUSE. Preferrably as SUSE rpms.
4. Lock Screen
When I lock the desktop using Lock screen, I can't get it back. My
password does not work.
I can use same password from other virtual terminals to login to the
system but it does not work while unlocking the screen.
This is weired...
can anybody help?
Thanks
