Then i tried to configured the device with yast. when i restarted the network, it said no configuration found for wlan0.

One told me that i should upgrade to 9.2. I did (new 9.2 installation) and still have the same problem (same logs). Please help. I'm wondering what happened? why? Do you have any device recommendations rather than what's been discussed?

You need to have a look at what chipset is on the wifi card. Most up-to-date wifi cards have unsupported chipsets on. I have a prism54 chipset and its not supported by suse, or any other distro for that matter (to my knowledge).
This is because the foolish wifi companies wont release the core parts of the drivers, so no linux developer can work on them to create linux counterparts. However, look into ndiswrapper. Its free, and it allows you to "wrap" your winxp/2k driver for the card with a linux header, therefore allowing linux to see it correctly. Works for me on a 54g card, and its not that slow (its slower than a windows native mode driver for the same card, but it's a small difference).
Another solution could be DriverLoader by Linuxant (not free, of course)

How did you install the card in yast (as pcmcia card??) did you check with iwconfig if your card is recognized y the system - the output should show you wlan0 or something like this (in my case I had ra0, depends on the driver) You could also check in /etc/sysconfig/network/ if there is a file called ifcfg-wlan0 or ifcfg-pcmia-bus0. in my case: I had a ralink chipset. had to install a seperate driver -> device name ra0 configure a normal interface in Yast as pcmcia and rename the file to ifcfg-ra0 all this worked for me -- Thomas Wedehase Nuernberg, Germany www.thomaswedehase.com PGP-KEY: 0x3337F9AC "The day Microsoft makes something that doesn't suck is probably the day they start making vacuum cleaners." -Ernst Jan Plugge
