I am trying to find a webcam I can use with suse. Hardware databases don't say much at all. So can some one report they are using a webcam with suse (9.2) and what installation entailed. Chris
The Logitech Pro 3000 and 4000 work fine, though you may have to do something with pwc (http://www.saillard.org/linux/pwc/ , http://www.seismo.ethz.ch/linux/webcam.html ). I've also got an older Philips 740 running just fine in 9.2 , I use Camstream as the app and/or GnomeMeeting, and they both also work just fine.
I am using a Logitech Quickcam pro (new model: productID 0x920) and it works with the spcaview driver (don't have the link right now, but google should help). As viewer I use the webcam tool out of the v4l-tools.
Thanks for the replies. The situation seems to be as I expected- not good. I think I will go for the lOitec Quick cam pro as I see stuff for that when I google so I'm presuming it can be got going without too much fuss. Now I have to find one. Chris Watch out!! Logitech Quickcam pro is not Logitech Quickcam pro!!!! The new Quickcam (product id: 0x920)pros have a different chip (ICM 532), so you will need a different driver (icm532 or spca5xx). Most of the google hits use the old modell (product id 0x870)!!
