For Shorewall I deleted the eth0 and eth1 interfaces and added internal and external. Got similar masquerade errors so I deleted the old 'masq' and created the new with external and internal. Saw similar problems with ifconfig NOT showing internal or external.
Rebooted and it all worked. Had tried "rcnetwork restart" but that didn't change anything. Bind and dhcp had troubles until after the reboot also.
YMMV Stan
You was finally able to run shorewall with persistent_name ?
For dhcp Yast manage the identification of the nic, with bind no problem because I manage the security through ip rules.

Yes. Changed 3 settings. Both 'interface' and 'masq' and then a REBOOT took care of the rest. I think I had to manually start Shorewall after the reboot since it didn't start automatically. I have since rebooted at least once and everything restarted as I expected.
New labels 'external' and 'internal' show up automatically in Gkrellm and other areas.
Have you rebooted just to clear everything and start from a new baseline? Worked for me.

To resolv the problem, I change searching's direction. I Use getcfg to determine the good interface name & to correctly set my zones in Shorewall content of /etc/shorewall/interfaces : NET_INT=`getcfg-interface "eth-bus-pci-0000:02:01.0"` NET_EXT=`getcfg-interface "eth-bus-pci-0000:03:0d.0"` after all references to eth0 & eth1 is replaced by $NET_INT & $NET_EXT.
