Thanks for the replies. The situation seems to be as I expected- not
good. I think I will go for the lOitec Quick cam pro as I see stuff for
that when I google so I'm presuming it can be got going without too much
fuss. Now I have to find one.

Watch out!! Logitech Quickcam pro is not Logitech Quickcam pro!!!!

The new Quickcam (product id: 0x920)pros have a different chip (ICM 532), so
you will need a different driver (icm532 or spca5xx). Most of the google
hits use the old modell (product id 0x870)!!
