At the moment I have got Suse 9.2 32 bit installed on a 64bit AMD PC. I was wondering when 9.3 comes out, which I have got preordered, can I use the update option to upgrade my existing 32 bit install to the 64 bit version? Or would I have to do a fresh install? All advice welcome.
Hmm, I am not so sure if this is a recommended upgrade path. I would
propose to perform a fresh installation. But as you would have to
perform a backup of your data first anyway, you could of course first
give it a try before you install from scratch if it breaks :)
But I fear that YaST will not even propose the possibility of upgrading,
as x86 and x86_64 are different architectures. If it offers an upgrade,
it's probably the 32bit version.
But I would guess your experiences would be interesting for others, too!
Bye,
