A few methods I can think of:

'print to file', which produces a .ps file, or export to pdf.
Open the .ps or the .pdf file with gimp.
Set a sufficient resolution in the 'Load PostScript' dialog, e.g. 300
dpi. Set the 'Mode' to 'Indexed', then save as .gif.

'convert', part of ImageMagick, would be another tool to convert the .ps
or .pdf to .gif. I'm sure there are more of them.
