Did you create the mailbox? Have you something in 
/home/vpopmail/your_domain or whatever the vpopmail folder is?

I don't know about those scripts, but the installation of qmail and 
vpopmail is not really "easy", using scripts makes difficult understanding 
a problem when there is one

I'm not sure what the problem is, I think there is only one setuid 
program, which is qmail-queue

Seems to be fine, I don't think you need the ip address, at least I never

I only have one row here on my qmail servers: mail.xxx

Anyway, even if it seems complicated, I would advise not to use 
installation scripts, but do it yourself.
Go to http://www.lifewithqmail.org/ : if you follow it step by step, you 
will understand more and have a working installation at the end.
