I decided to try the upgrade path from 9.1 to 9.2 but the upgrade program froze. It could not mount the 9.1 system `/' partition [/dev/hda7] which works fine when I boot 9.1 alone and which the upgrade program has correctly identified. Initially I was concerned when I noticed that all the other partiions were not `recognized'. Then I realized that fstab is in `/'. So the question is why is the upgrade to 9.2 not able to mount an otherwise fully functional `/' partitiion? Apart from saying it cannot mount the system `failed to mount target system' the upgrade program does NOT provide any diagnostic follow up. The suse support team were singularly uncooperative. I'd had another freeze with an even more laconic message `Error' even earlier on with no other explanation. However, I was able [pure luck] to go beyond this message when I unhooked the computer from the lan. But I have not had any similarly effective vision of what to do in this case. Any help/ideas/explanations gratefully accepted. thanks -- Cheers, Serge [Naggar Consulting]
