on Sat, 12 Feb 2005 03:35:31 +0000 (GMT) I've tried adding the mplayer codecs into the totem add-on folder (.gnome2/totem-addons I think its called).
But I still cant get my system to play wmv files. (Using Kaffeinne, Totam or Noatun) What am I doing wrong ? > > Thanks, Digsy
Digsy, I have the following rpm sitting in a folder in my home directory. I installed it using YaST, and Totem plays .wmv files just great. In fact I now use Totem for playing almost all of my video clips including .wmv, .mpg, .mov, .avi, .asf. Plays them all!
W32_Codecs_9.2/w32codec-all-20050115-0.pm.0.i386.rpm
Gil ========== Sorry, I should have added that I'm using SuSE 9.2, but I used Totem successfully when I was using 9.1. Gil

And one more correction. Sorry, correct rpm name is:
w32codec-all-20050115-0.pm.0.i386.rpm
It's late and I need sleep. ;o) Gil
Gil,
Thanks for the help.
I installed the rpm using YAST but I still cant play wmv files.
I have Totem version 0.99.9. I even tried the edit->preferences->add proprietary plugins. But that just opens a folder and I couldnt see what to do next.
Wuold rebooting help ? I'm a noob so honestly I dont really know what I'm doing (as you can tell hehe)
Thanks, Digsy
'K Digsy and others following... here's what i did to get it working. My platform is SuSE 9.1Pro on an P3 600 box and I'm not using Totem but Kaffeine. I had to go and download these files and install these prerequisites as root: speex-1.1.6-0.pm.0.i686.rpm from http://packman.links2linux.org/index.php4?action=124&vn=10 libtheora-1.0alpha3-7.1.i586.rpm from http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat/4/idpl/1623997/com/libtheora-1.0alpha3-... although I didn't figureout until later that I could have gotten the rev 4 version from http://packman.links2linux.org/index.php4?action=124&vn=10 libdvdcss-1.2.8-2.network.i386.rpm from http://cambuca.ldhs.cetuc.puc-rio.br/xine/ libxine1-1.0-0.pm.0.i686.rpm from http://packman.links2linux.org/index.php4?action=124&vn=10 Finally I got the latest from kaffeine.sourceforge.net kaffeine-0.5-0.pm.2.i686.rpm At first run, the routine calibrated itself, and wmv files played! The packman site is a great resource but don't try to get the libdvdcss from there. Much like the U.S., Germany has fallen victim to the legal system and it's a god awful mess to get it the way they suggest. Thankfully the RPM is still available from the site I listed but it looks like it's getting harder to get due to the legal wrangle, better back up your downloads! Hope that works for you too!
