recovering data of window partition erase by suse installation

Hi all
One of my colleague wanted to install SuSe 9.2 as a dual boot to his WinXP
system (I did it myself on my last 2 laptops without any problem).
He said that he choosed to minimize the fat partition in the setup but at
the boot only SuSe was indicated.
I just had a look at his partition table, to see that there are only 2
partitions, swap and /.
I know of utilities to recover the data for Windows but what about some for
Linux?
