In the last year and a half I have twice tried to get Adaptec's less-expesive zero slot/channel raid cards (e.g. 2015S) to work in my Tyan Opteron motherboards. First with SuSE SLES8, then with SLES 9. My server integrator worked with Adaptec and Tyan both times for a total of six weeks - but no joy.
I had some nasty experiences with an Adaptec 2120 controller that crashed very reliable under Suse 9.1 (aacraid module) as soon as big files were copied on/off the raid array. The only solution at that time was to use kernel 2.4 with Suse 9.0. That combination is still working stable as a samba server. Next week I'll try Suse 9.2 with LSI Raid Controller. The vendor claims it will work and the driver seems to be included in Suse 9.2. Let's give it a week to run and I'll write about my experience. (^-^) Sandy
