When people started to be afraid to use the words they're using.
As for me, my "gangs" vs. "society" line was a joke. I categorically refuse to use emoticons, so I just have to accept that sometimes my humor goes unrecognized.
As to Terence, I don't know what his attempt at humor was about (he used a simely, so I assume it was in fact attempted humor), but I'm pretty sure there is indeed such a thing as a "gang." RRS,
yes, there certainly is a term "gang" , w/ good and bad connotations .. but generally it's a non sexist greeting to a group of people where one is, at least relatively, a known personality. And is rather less annoying than to have a bunch of pre teens call you one of their "peeps" English evolves rather quickly. Each generation seems to put a spin on it in several ways. Some words last, some make it into the dictionary and some just disappear ... ' Hep Cat" hasn't been heard in general conversation lately, for instance. Tho I am aware of some dance clubs that are trying to revive that whole era, not just the chatter but the music, dance and wardrobe as well ... The more things change.... etc. -- j nemo me impune lacessit 'Quis custodiet ipsos custodiates?'
