I had the same problem, the card was configured to start at boot time.
It recieved the ip from the router but it could not connect to the
net. I had to run through very similar serious of commands to get it
to connect properly.
The issue was overcome by deactivating the hardwired nic and setting
the card up for hotplugging.
I haven't tried setting the card for boot time yet...might try that
now actually...

Unless I did something wrong on my pcmcia setup, I tried this and it ran before the pcmcia services were ready. In fact, the lights on the card were not even lit up at the time that the boot.local fired off my iwconfig script.

I need to log in as root and run: ifdown eth0 (hardware nic, not even connected to anything) ifdown wlan0 iwconfig wlan0 ifup wlan0
Unless I perform these steps as root, I will not be able to obtain an IP from the router. I'm using ndiswrapper on SuSE 9.2. Is there a way of getting the devices loaded such that a regular user can simply boot up, log in and get on the net w/o having to know the root password to run the script shown above? You could try setting the NIC to "manual" instead of "on boot" via Yast. It will then skip the NIC on boot and setup the wireless. -- Joe Morris New Tribes Mission Email Address: Joe_Morris@ntm.org Registered Linux user 231871

I may be wrong, but as far as I know, boot.local is the last one to be executed after all other init scripts. Still, if this is not the case, I'd be glad to learn it.
