And likely not what you are expecting. <g> I have some old scsi dvives, a Seagate Barracuda that has a whole 4gigs of space on it.. and a Quantum that has 3 gigs IIRC they are earlly scsi 2 . Now the question is, does anyone know of a company that is making those convert a drive boxes to take these to an external and posibley firewire or USB2 at the outside connection?
failing that is there some sort of hard case I could put them into and connect up to a computer that I can put the old scsi card into?? ( that isn't so portable tho )
I can hook them up to the card now, but they aren't so safe this way... no telling what might fall on them or get spilled, and then there is the dust..
I have some of my data on them, art works and other things that I'd like to save, AND for the heck of it.. then use the drives perhaps to store email archives or something ???
I did have all the data backed up , unfortunately to dat tape, that requires an OS/2 program that I don't have, tho it's installed on one of the drives and that is one of my biggest annoyances. <heavy sigh> TIA for any help here. -- j
You can find them new, but they cost more than they are worth. THe cheapest thing to do is buy a small PC chassis, mount your drive in it, use the new power supply for power, and run your scsi cable to it. ie. I'm pretty sure SCSI can handle different power in the external enclosure than in the main PC. If you want a used external box, go to Ebay and search for "scsi external enclosure". I found 19 of them, an so far they are reasonably priced. You might also look for a used scsi shoebox. That is what Sun used to call their external boxes. Not sure what they call them now.
