In the control center I have arts set to be disabled after 5 seconds of being idle. It'll restart automatically if needed. This used to cause awful trouble with sound when this option was not available. I'm running kde-3.3.2, but I believe the option was available in the 9.2 distro version of kde.
Arts isn't working here on my system at all ... not in KDE anyways. System sounds don't work either, they "used" to work if I gave an external player. Now it doesn't, and I'm running kde-3.3.2 from the apt repository. This is an AMD64 system, with MSI Neo FISR2 motherboard. The function, that the arts should shut itself down after n seconds, was already set, and worked in all other programs. As well as the old version of skype, but the new version borked on it ... I had to disable arts entirely for it to work. ========== Örn, You might try compiling the arts src.rpm to see if that fixes your setup
