All the videocards you mention work just fine under suse 9.2 (make sure to get the latest nvidia drivers), however, be aware that many of these require (a lot) of extra power.
I have a geforce 6800 sitting here that I cannot use (yet) as it requires (at least) a 500W power supply, and the machine I wish to use it in has only a 250W .
Eep!
And the 500W is a hard limit. I've tried the card in a machine with a 480W powersupply and it didn't work/
Bleh! I'd have thought 480 a whacking heavy-duty server PS. Well, I suppose if I'm building a new PC anyway I can incorporate such a power supply. I'll admit though, seems a very un-green thing to be doing just to play a game ...
Well, you can buy a 5200 (for $25) and play doom3 with that. You should be
able to get about 10fps that way (I should know, Im still stuck with a 5200
;) ), and of course, there are 6600s and 6800s that require less power
(though they're harder to find, and are usually even more expensive)
