There was a discussion about this recently on FSFE-UK, and the consensus was
that there isn't really anything that can do the whole job. F4L, which
Beatriz mentioned, is apparently not being developed any more, and the
audio-triggering facilities of Flash (for instance) don't really have any
free software equivalent. SMIL is a possibility for some functionality, but
not all. I was told by one free software programmer that it would be
possible to write something basic but reasonably effective for around $3,500,
which seems good value to me, but it's too much for me to pay individually.
If we could get a couple of hundred people to put $20 in a pot, a la Mozilla,
then it might be a goer!
