This may be a elementary, but I am trying to setup an FTP server in 9.1 using the Administrators Handbook that came with the software. I only see one small paragraph that doesn't really help. I have also referenced The Linux Documentation Project which seems to have a little more info. I don't even see an FTP option in YaST. What would be the best direction to go in?
Install the rpm of ftp server, for example vsftp, then activate the ftp service in Network Services -> Network Services (inetd or xinetd). If necessary enable the inetd service, select the ftp service (take a look into the details if more than one ftp entry is found and toggle the status to "on". It might be necessary to restart inetd: rcinetd restart. Test in the shell with "telnet localhost 21" There you go. You should see something like: katgar:~ # telnet localhost 21 Trying 127.0.0.1... Connected to localhost. Escape character is '^]'. 220 (vsFTPd 1.2.1) quit 221 Goodbye. Connection closed by foreign host. Don't forget to edit /etc/vsftpd.conf according to your needs! Sandy
