I would recommend doing a fresh install as things have changed quite a
lot since 7.3.

and the non-Upgrade? Is something missing from the Upgrade CDs?
Software wise no printed manuals wise yes
I started out with SuSE 5.3, then moved to 6.3, and 7.3, so I'm
comfortable doing an "update" installation via Yast. But if there's
some incompatibility with RPM or something else that makes that
7.3-to-9.2 jump impossible, or if major things are missing in
the Upgrade version, I'd like to change my order asap.
I would recommend doing a fresh install as things have changed quite a
lot since 7.3.
