I fired up Firefox 1.0 (running on SuSE 9.0 Pro) today to find a folder missing in the bookmark manager. I manually opened all the other folders and can't find it. The "search" function" looks for bookmarks but not folders. The bookmarks are still "there" because, when I do a search on the name of a bookmark that I know was in the folder, I am able to find it. I've been trying to trace back and see where the folder is "hiding" but have had no luck.
Bookmarks for firefox are a flat file. There exist folders only as a html entry/designation in the file. If you have lost a "folder", it has either been deleted or the bookmark file has been mangled. You might try looking for a url that you remember was there by opening the bookmark file with an editor. The other missing url's should be right above or below (or both) of the one you remember and find. Then you could edit the bookmark file with firefox's bookmark editor and make your corrections. The file is: ~/.mozilla/firefox/xxxxxxxx.default/bookmarks.html with the (8) Xes being whatever code firefox assigns your setup. If you do not feel capable, forward me the file (bookmarks.html) and give me the name of one of the missing url's and I will try to retrieve the missing information for you. -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org HOG # US1244711 Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/photos
