What are these boot parameters about? I tried to google up some information 
but found nothing instructive except the connection between apic and Nvidia 
cards.

I was advised to try one of these three during bootup to get past a freeze.  
None worked, but the first one, apic, froze me at Setting up CMOS Clock 
whereas the others froze me at the INIT setup.

So what does all this mean?
