I've copied the applicable PPD file from the Kyocera CD, KM1020EE.PPD, to /etc/cups/ppd...
There's a directory in the cups installation, /usr/share/cups/model/, which has vendor-specific gzipped ppd files with names like F-1010-laserjet.ppd.gz and FS-1200-Postscript.ppd.gz. These seem to be the ones displayed by lpinfo.
The relationship between PPD filenames and the printers that they're for is foggy at best. My best advice is to try using the CUPS web interface and menu system, rather than try to work it manually. It's on port 631.
The web interface "Add Printer" function seems to offer only the printers with files already in /usr/share/cups/model/. I don't see a function for "add-new-ppd-file-downloaded-outside-of-cups-installation". and Doug B wrote:
I don't know how to do it with the web interface (it only seems to offer ppds from the database), but using yast, when you select the printer model, there is a button to add ppd file to database. It will let you download a ppd or point to a local file.
For some reason Yast has "Configure printers" whited out (it does offer me the opportunity to "Configure your scanner" which I *don't* have). I installed Cups via Yast, and the cups server seems to be running, offers the web config, etc. START_CUPS=yes in rc.config. But I guess Yast isn't going to help me install this printer... Surely adding a new ppd isn't an uncommon situation, is it? I guess I'll start thrashing around trying random things... If anyone has any other suggestions, I'd be grateful. Jim
