The original reason for the "personal" edition was that there were masses of complaints about the sheer volume of software in suse, that it was frightening the new users. So the personal was supposed to be this "desktop ready" version, with the best-of-breed software, and not two dozen text editors, 7 email clients and whatever else we get in the pro version. In short, a version for people who had never seen linux before, and who wouldn't know what a compiler was if it jumped up and hit them in the face I still think it's a worthwhile goal to aim for. It may not have been done in the best possible way, but the problem that "personal" hoped to solve is still there
