This is surely an RTFM, but I was not able to locate it in the FAQs. KMail uses a lock file (or fcntl) to lock a local mailbox when incorporating email. Procmail(1) uses /var/spool/mail/$LOGNAME.lock. However, since Postfix does not use procmail I was wondering if it followed the same convention that procmail does? Also, AFAIK, fetchmail simply pipes its output into postfix via the sendmail interface, so the only guys updating /var/spool/mail/$LOGNAME are postfix and kmail. -- Jerry Feldman <gaf@blu.org> Associate Director Boston Linux and Unix http://www.blu.org
