<pet peeve> "Novell" is a company. "NetWare" is a product. Considering that Novell now owns SUSE, you;re not talking about leaving Novell at all.
No, there never was any "NET" command associated with NetWare. Your're thinking about Windoze and the silly NET USE stuff they "borrowed" from IBM's PC Network (circa 1984).
If you desire to migrate your NetWare environment to a SUSE platform, all you need to do is await the arrival of Open Enterprise Server, which will offer you the OPTION of installing the NetWare services atop EITHER a "traditional" NetWare kernel OR a SUSE Linux kernel. Once you have it atop the SUSE Linux kernel, I think that would be the time to start migrating clients to a different access method.
That was a solution until Novell announced (please correct me if I'm wrong) OES was delayed until February 2005 which is unfortunately unacceptable for my customer.
If you just can't wait, then NetWare ALREADY offers you the ability to use different access methods - its called Native File Access Protocols, and its available on modern versions of NetWare (v5.1 thru v6.5). NFAP allows a NetWare server to appear as an NFS server to *NIX clients (including Linux), an AppleTalk server to Macs, and as a CIFS server to Windoze clients. Its been available for YEARS. See http://www.novell.com/products/nfa
OK that's interesting. Thanks a lot.

I can't recall the name of it though...

This is indeed a possibility. However the idea is to migrate all the data as quickly as possible and I'm not sure if it can be done with your solution.
There are a huge amount of user accounts to migrate and I just can't create the directories, the unix accounts and above all keep the file permissions by hand. I'm all but a Netware expert so I don't know if there is any way to script it (in that case my probelm is solved).
In fact I'm looking for utilities like the ones provided by Microsoft in the Windows Services for Netware
(http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/techinfo/overview/sfnmig.mspx)
Thanks

Hello
I'd like to migrate a Novell environment (mostly some file servers)
to a
Linux one (probably SuSe for many reasons).
I was wondering if there were any tool that allow me to do that. I've read some information about some NetWare services for SuSe and OES, but the idea is to completely get rid of the NetWare environment (ie. Servers and clients).
Of course Novell is not very verbose about that...
Okay, The way I've done it in the past was to simulate the current Netware file shares on linux server... In this way I could turn of the old servers, and continue with a smooth (read very slow) conversion.
Basically, all new systems access files via samba, all old ones via Netware..
Is that something like what you are looking for?
