I saw this also. all I had to do was reboot to init 3, then manually modprobe nvidia before X loads once you get nvidia loaded, you can do a depmod to make it happen automatically the next time B-) On Thursday 04 November 2004 03:31 pm, Mike Coan wrote:
Was running SuSE 9.1 Pro. Did a clean install of 9.2. Relevant hardware as follows:
Graphics card GeForce FX5200 CPU AMD Athlon 2500 Motherboard Asus A&V8X-X
Setup was working fine in 9.1
Tried to install nvidia driver via YAST. Didn't get any errors.
Configure using sax2 -m 0=nvidia. Configuration goes fine, no errors, but nvidia module doesn't load. Not sure what module it is loading as lsmod reveals neither nvidia or nv.
Install nvidia driver using second method. Init 3, log in as root
sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-6111-pkg1-run -q --kernel-source-path=/usr/src/linux
Process runs fine.
Do sax2 -m 0=nvidia and the process bombs. Tells me to look at /var/log/Sax.log
At the end of that file I see the following:
" (EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to initialize the NVIDIA kernel module! (EE) NVIDIA(0): *** Aborting *** (II) UnloadModule: "nvidia" (II) UnloadModule: "vgahw" (II) Unloading /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/libvgahw.a (EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration.

Please consult the The X.Org Foundation support at http://wiki.X.Org for help. Please also check the log file at "/var/log/Xorg.0.0.log" for additional information."
Tried using Google to find something on this, but was unsuccessful. I suppose I could go back to XFree, but was wondering if anyone had any ideas.
