After updating Synaptic to 0.53 I could not start Synaptic in the usual way. I assumed that kdesu had something to do with su and after not finding information in the man/info etc. I did a Google. On sourceforge.net I found a discusion about the bug and some answers from Richard Bos. No solution and as far as I could find out also no new version of Synaptic. One of the proposed solutions from Richard, using sux -c got Synaptic working but I still want my kdesu back. Any solution in sight? A new Synaptic without the bug?
- where did you get synaptic from?
- what error message did you get?
Cheers,
Leen
Beste Leen, The synaptic I got from the rbos site I assume with Synaptic. The error I got from Synaptic is/ was: KDEInit could not launch 'gksu': Could not find 'gksu' executable.
With sux -c synaptic it works but running it in a terminal I find after leaving the program following protest:
(synaptic:7440): Gtk-CRITICAL **: file gtkwidget.c: line 1827 (gtk_widget_hide): assertion `GTK_IS_WIDGET (widget)' failed
Have you got xsu installed? In Gnome, I had to install that, then change the menu entry to run: gnomesu '/usr/sbin/synaptic' #(note the quotes) David -- Registered Linux User No 207521 The Linux Counter: http://counter.li.org/ "The above is my personal opinion and does not necessarily reflect that of the little voices in my head."
