This is really odd.  I have two different computers running SuSE 9.1, one at 
the office and one at home.   (I do my SuSE list work at home.)  The one at 
home behaves as yours does; the one at the office does not.  Unfortunately I 
don't have easy access to the SuSE list from the office computer.
