This is with Suse 9.1 on a Reiser filesystem.
Unfortunately I allowed my /tmp directory to fill up and even though I am deleting files I don't seem to be getting any space back.
Make sure you don't have a rogue process running that is filling up disk space as fast as you empty it.
I did run reiserfsck but it didn't report anything unusual, but there could well be command line switches to utilise that I do not know about.
If you can run it, kdirstat gives a nice graphical representation of the filesystem. You can see at a glance which files and directories are using up the disk space. I actually had your problem this morning and in 3 minutes found out that the .xsession-errors file in my home directory had grown to 5.6GB. Jeff
