Hello SuSE people,
<SNIP>
Connected to the server and there was a huge list of update patches.
(Many megabytes) Some are red, some are blue, and some are black. All
have checkmarks next to them to be updated?
Question is, what am I looking at? Do they all need to be updated ?
(excluding, of course packages that I don't need or want)
Looking for a little guidance here.

I'm just guessing, but I believe the code is:
Black = optional
Blue = important
Red = Critical
You can choose to manually select packages in the initial dialogue, if you like. Basically, Yast will highlight the ones you already have installed that need to be updated. Not sure that it selects packages you don't need to update. I've noticed it doesn't necessarily auto-select the wlan card updates (and I don't have a wlan card). HTH.
