Nobody responded to my post about this problem yesterday, so let me try once again.
On three different installations of 9.2 I cannot rebuild modules.dep file using depmod command from module-init-tools-3.1_pre5-6 and kernel 2.6.8-24.3.
The resulting modules.dep file is different from the one provided by the kernel package.
I can think of three possible reasons:
1. depmod is broken and does not generate dependencies properly (different version of depmod was used by SUSE when building kernel package)
2. modules.dep file provided by the kernel package is incorrect
3. some modules in kernel package are incorrect
Can somebody please try depmod command on 9.2 ( you can do it in dry-run mode with -n parameter to not overwrite existing modules.* files)?
Then compare ipfwadm.ko information in generated file and modules.dep file from the package.

Not an answer, but more data. Modprobe doesn't seem to do anything either - at least not modprobe -r hw_random. Next boot, it's still looking to load the module for the non-existant hardware, 2.6.8-24.3 and 2.6.9 (from kernel.org) same behaviour. I thought it was me, but possibly the module subsystem is munged in recent kernels? Mike- -- If you can keep your head while those around you are losing theirs...
