My first linux was RH 6.2 with the default gnome desktop. My first impression 
was: "This is pretty cool lookin, but I can't do anything with it." It seemed 
like a college project or a "proof of concept" desktop. Lots to look at but 
not much substance underneath. KDE was more "business like" and practical. 
The 2 desktops have become more similar and complete over the years and I 
actually like the gnome desktop now. I just like KDE better...
