Dear all,

I have encountered a problem during the installation of a LaCie 250Gb USB 2.0 Hard Drive (FA Porsche design) on a Suse 9.0 Professional machine.

I firstly tried (as a test) to install and set up it on my laptop (also a Suse 9.0 Pro machine) without any poblem: the device was correctly recognised on /dev/sdb1 and I had no trobles mounting where I wanted and with the desired mounting features.

But when I have tried to install it on my desktop machine, the following message was produced by kernel (monitored by dmesg):

....

usb.c: USB device not accepting new address=62 (error=-110)
hub.c: new USB device 00:10.3-3, assigned address 63
usb_control/bulk_msg: timeout
usb.c: USB device not accepting new address=63 (error=-110)
hub.c: new USB device 00:10.3-3, assigned address 64
usb_control/bulk_msg: timeout
usb.c: USB device not accepting new address=64 (error=-110)
hub.c: new USB device 00:10.3-3, assigned address 65
usb_control/bulk_msg: timeout
usb.c: USB device not accepting new address=65 (error=-110)
hub.c: new USB device 00:10.3-3, assigned address 66
interrupt, status=0x00000001.
usb_control/bulk_msg: timeout
usb.c: USB device not accepting new address=66 (error=-110)
hub.c: new USB device 00:10.3-3, assigned address 67

....

and every dmesg refresh produced such an error with a different progresive address number.
I have checked the modules of the kernel, but the modules needed seem to be on (SCSI stuff, i.e. SCSI support and similar issues), as suggested in many lists, tutorials, etc.

Does anyone have any idea about fixing the problem??

thanx in advance,

LM

There is something to be learned from a rainstorm. When meeting with a sudden shower, you
try not to get wet and quickly run along the road. But doing such things as passing under
the eaves of houses, you still get wet. When you are resolved from the beginning, you will
not be perplexed though you will still get the same soaking. This understanding extends to
everything.
