Thanks. THat was it... couldn't remember. I looked in the pppoe file & novj
is specified. So now I'm puzzled as to why I'm getting those darned
compression errors. Something strange is going on, here. But then, I don't
know what I expected w/this box. ;-)
I don't use pppoe, but my '/etc/ppp/peers/pppoe' file has:
...
# switch off all compressions (this is a must)
nopcomp
# this is recommended
novjccomp
noccp
What is that about? You know I'm interested, I have problems with ppp.
Perhaps I should try that on my regular ppp or wvdial files. I'll try...
anything would be better that what I'm getting. In my logs I see:
Jul 23 21:02:48 nimrodel pppd[10654]: sent [IPCP ConfReq id=0x1 ]
So it is using VJ, whatever that is, and later:
Jul 23 21:02:48 nimrodel pppd[10654]: rcvd [CCP ConfAck id=0x1 ]
Jul 23 21:02:48 nimrodel pppd[10654]: rcvd [CCP ConfReq id=0x5 ]
Jul 23 21:02:48 nimrodel pppd[10654]: sent [CCP ConfAck id=0x5 ]
so it also uses CCP. Later on:
Jul 23 21:04:31 nimrodel pppd[10654]: rcvd [Compressed data] 00 db 82 34 c4 ef 82 1b ...
Jul 23 21:04:31 nimrodel pppd[10654]: sent [CCP ResetReq id=0x2]
Jul 23 21:04:32 nimrodel pppd[10654]: rcvd [CCP ResetAck id=0x2]
Jul 23 21:04:34 nimrodel pppd[10654]: rcvd [Compressed data] 00 06 82 34 c4 1f 83 1b ...
Jul 23 21:04:34 nimrodel pppd[10654]: sent [CCP ResetReq id=0x3]
Jul 23 21:04:34 nimrodel pppd[10654]: rcvd [CCP ResetAck id=0x3]
Why so many resets? Is something wrong going on with CCP - what ever that
is? If that is a compression method, I think that I would be better off
with compression handled at the modem level, and the modem certainly has
that capability.
