I'm running Suse 9.0 and this morning the screen was scrambled with an error message from the monitor that the input frequency was incorrect. The computer would not respond to keystrokes so I ended up powering off and on (I'm using reiserfs and this didn't "appear" to corrupt any files). When the system came back up I encountered several problems. At login I get an error box saying I have a krandinithack error (a SIGSEGV - segment fault signal). If I close the box and continue, things are "almost" normal. For example, my screen resolution is supposed to be 1400x1050 but I seem to have spontaneously switched to a resolution of 1280x1024 with a virtual desktop set to 1400x1050 (moving mouse to screen edges causes display to pan a small amount). If I go to control center to and try to change size&orientation I get another segment fault (for kcontrol). I'm very uneasy about all this because my computer is LIFE AND DEATH (OK, a small exageration...). I've reinstalled kdebase from DVD using yast2 and then did online update which led to a lot of kde updates (kdelib, etc). Problems still remain. Could someone give me guidance on best (safest!) way to recover from what appears to be a corrupted KDE? TIA, Patrick
