REPOST Have had to repost as the address for the author of taper, is not responding. Can anybody help,, pleaase. I have successfully got taper running an HP DDS1 tape drive, but only from the terminal. I am running Pro 9.1, with taper 6.9b. Having set the 'taper_prefs' etc. backups can be successfully achieved from the terminal. I have tried to setup the 'sets' file denoting the areas I want backed up, but from the terminal nothing is entered in the 'sets' file. Having read the documentation I proceeded to hand crank the file using the three line format for all required areas of backup. Using crontab I was unable to stimulate taper with the following entry; '31 14 * * * taper -U @UnattendedTest ' but found that if I used the following entry at least taper was run; '31 14 * * * /sbin/taper -U @UnattendedTest '. To which I get the following responses; # ------------------ email to root (from taper)------------------------- Using file set UnattendedTest Selected /home/paul/Documents from fileset Backup commenced at Fri Sep 10 14:49:01 2004 Unable to start backup child Backup ABORTED Backup finished at Fri Sep 10 14:49:54 2004 # ----------------------------------------------------------------- # ------------------ email to root (from cron)--------------------- Unable to start backup child sh: line 1: /var/tmp/taperSiNwBT: No such file or directory # ------------------------------------------------------------------ # ---------------------- entry in taper.log ------------------------- Fri Sep 10 14:49:00 2004: Starting Backup v6.9b Fri Sep 10 14:49:00 2004: Opening info file Fri Sep 10 14:49:54 2004: ERROR: No such file or directory while starting background backup Fri Sep 10 14:49:54 2004: Unable to start backup child Fri Sep 10 14:51:00 2004: Backup finished. # ------------------------------------------------------------------ Some of it appears to be permission related and I feel I have more than one problem that needs resolving. Can anybody help????????? TIA Paul
