Following the advice from warning notices popped up on my gnome 2.8 install, I've downloaded and compiled XFree86 4.4.0.
Compiling this without errors is one thing. Installing it could be quite another. Does anyone have any caveats I should be aware of that may not be well documented?

Jim Because most distros are getting away from the XFree86 project files, I'm not sure I would recommend trying to compile it to use on your SuSE system. Yes, you could probably get it to work, but it's hard to say what problems you would run into at this time. Instead, you should take a look at the newer X.org files. This is what everyone is moving too, because of the restrictive licensing change on XFree86, so will likely be more compatible with your setup. You probably won't even have to compile it, since there are SuSE rpms already on the mirrors. ;o) Lee -- --- KMail v1.7 --- SuSE Linux Pro v9.1 --- Registered Linux User #225206 Those Who Dance Are Considered Insane, by Those Who Cannot Hear the Music!
