Mozilla kills sound

I'm using Mozilla 1.7.1 in SuSe 9.1. After it has been running for a while,
sound stops working. Apparently Mozilla is blocking the sound system. When
I exit from Mozilla all the sounds which should have played are played in
sequence. An interesting effect, but not very useful. Has anyone else seen
this behavior and/or have a solution.
