Be careful to understand what Novell is doing in this space.
1) They're producing a corporate desktop which at first will probably have
more of a GNOME-ish flavour due to the Ximian influence and the early
engineering in this space being predominantly driven by them
2) They're continuing the production of a 'hobbiest' distro - SL
Professional
These are two different products - and there are others (SL ES, SL SS, etc).
So when you're looking at the press, be sure you understand which product
they're talking about.
There is quite a clear message coming through the blogs of everyone at
Planet SUSE (including Ximian & GNOME guys) that the open desktop platform
needs to be consolidated and the desktop environments need to be able to
take advantage of a common infrustructure but still have their own
individual spins, advantages, etc.
So don't worry - KDE will continue to have strong support by Novell/SuSE, as
will GNOME.
