I think he's right. I see fairly frequent access to the drive (using Reiser FS) but I never hear it at all. And I don't even have the cover on the computer! --doug
XFS is known for its aggressive memory caching. It makes for good performance since it flushes to disk relatively rarely, but on the other hand it means that in a crash you stand to lose more data compared to a file system that flushes more often. Every silver lining has a cloud
