Does anyone have this board working?
I got it in my box as eth1 connected to a powerline bridge providing dhcp service to my local LAN. SuSE 9.1 64bit installed it just fine.
Are you setup for IPv4? (normal IP)
I've tried installing SUSE 9.0 & Mandrake 9.2 on my machine. I keep running into the same problem:
I wind up with a hybrid IPv6/IPv4 configuration which doesn't seem interested in letting me on the net.
I tried both installs configured for DHCP going to my Netgear WGR614v4 router. I am using this router right now on another machine via DHCP and know that it works. I have also tested it with the box in question on another OS and know that works.
YaST finds the card and identifies it just fine. Configures it as DHCP and seems to make it through card setup without error. However, the check for updates section of the installs fails unable to resolve host name. Once install competes, I am unable to ping anything or resolve anything with nslookup.
what is the module yast uses? In my case the name is natsemi.
I thought I had a pretty clear understanding of configuring IP under Windows/Solaris/Linux, but this thing is giving me a complex. When I look at the config files & ifconfig, I find all this IPv6 stuff. Someone said that since the nic is capable of fast internet the installer defaults to IPv6. I don't know if that is true or not (?). Someone else suggested flipping a pair of aliases in modules.conf as a means of making IPv6 go away, but that didn't seem to do much.
In a last ditch effort, I just configured my router to provide a reserved/static IP to the FA311's MAC address and resinstalled SUSE configuring for a static IP address - thinking this would convince the installer that yes, I _really_ want to do IPv4 please.. but still no beans. And _still_ when I look in the config files, I find all this IPv6 mumbo jumbo that I can't make heads or tails out of.
Right now, ifconfig reports only eth0 & lo(opback) interfaces. The change to a static IP during install at least seems to have made the sit0 IPv6 virtual device go away.. but still I can't even ping from my static private IP 192.168.0.4 to the router (192.168.0.1) - host unreachable. Both the router and the status lights on the back of the nic report the connection as up. So I know it's plugged in and the cable works..
I never got this problem during the install.
HELP, Please? [ifconfig info for eth0 follows below - thanks in advance!]
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:09:5B:8D:81:7C inet addr:192.168.0.4 Bcast:192.168.0.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets:0 errors:6 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:46 TX packets:48 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0 collisions:0 (0.0 b) TX bytes:2016 (1.9 Kb) Interrupt:11 Base address:0x6000
can you ping the router at all? could it be a dns resolution problem? Sorry for not being able to help you more. If you are interested in getting my line by line settings please contact me off-list. Best regards, Alex.
