I've been burning to try this out, but the thing that I haven't got my mind around it the following: If you are a laptop user, can you still login (e.g. at home) when the domain controller is not available? Are there any special "tricks" for getting this to work in both a "connected" and "disconnected"
mode?
use first pass is your friend :-) PAM acts as a stack of authentication systems, so after adding in the pam_smb option add use_first_pass to the line password required pam_unix2.so nullock after nullock. This takes the username and password you've entered initially and compares it against the system files once the first authentication has failed. So long as you set up both network and system accounts, and keep them synchronised it should work. Regards, Ben
