Hello SuSE folk,
Have had this really weird & strange thing happen a couple of times in the last few days.
Go to login at bootup. (graphical kdm?) Click on the user and then type the password. Login fails. So then type in root, but when I type "r" to start, the numerical character 4 is added before the r even the only typed character is r. Of course the name is wrong and the login will fail.
Then try to type in a users name and random "4"'s will appear in the users name. Again, the login will fail. Even happened a couple of times when booting init3. (the random "4" would be added to the user name.) Will eventually get in using a terminal and then check everything I could think of including the login manager, passwords, etc., etc.
Some kind of hardware problem ?? Keyboard ?? But that shouldn't have effected the GUI login. Ran memtest 24 straight hours with no errors.
Has anyone ever seen anything like this? Ideas?? clues ?? ......Maybe it is time for new MB?? (system?)

Try a new keyboard, or check that the one you have it securely seated in the connector. My guess is it's the keyboard acting up. I have a hard time thinking it would be software related... --
Is it a wireless keyboard, by any chance? I have a Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse, and when the battery is getting low, all sorts of weird things happen, similar to what you describe. David
