Hi,
I have beend using debian/freebsd/gentoo for the last few years, but: I am waiting for a new laptop (to come in a few days) which is SuSe certified - so I would like to give it (I mean - SuSe) a chance. As never had to pay for any of mensioned distros - this bad habit made me just download SuSe personal free iso. I do not know SuSe world: so here come the questions: 1. Is it fully functional OS (even when not purchased) ? 2. Will I be able to install development tools (command line ones - i do not need kdevelop) using this famous YaST ? 3. How does the situation with packages available look like (I mean could the amount of them be comared to gentoo 'portege' or freebsd 'ports' collections ?) ?
The Personal Edition is lot "slimmer" than the Professional, but certainly fully functional. As a former debian user, you'll certainly be familiar with apt, so take a look at http://linux01.gwdg.de/apt4rpm/ Lots more software available, including all the development tools you'll want. Enjoy! David
