Perhaps Chapter 4 of the KDevelop Manual can be of use here. Already the first
link on that page is a pointer to user interface modes, exactly what you have
a problem with. ;)

You can start all over again by removing:
~/.kde/share/config/kdeveloprc
~/.kde/share/apps/kdevelop
If you wish to keep the current settings, back them up /first/.
