Vodafone's 3G datacard works on Linux

I read an archived request for information on this issue – so here it is:
I have succeeded in making the Vodafone 3G datacard work with 2.4 and 2.6
kernel systems – you can find my howto here:

I do most of my tests with SUSE 9.1 Pro
