I'm new to Linux and what I have seen from SuSE so far has impressed.
I have SuSE 9.1 Pro with kernel 2.6.5-7.104-default (I think).
Should I upgrade the kernel
Unless you have specific reasons to do so, I would suggest to simply stick with the kernels that get distributed via YOU (YaST Online Update). The one that you have installed is the most recent one, so you should be fine for now.
and if so, could someone give me a step-by-step guide on how to do this.
Installing other SUSE kernels (from the FTP server) than those that come via YOU would be slightly more work but still easy enough to do. Installing kernels from other sources than SUSE could be more tricky (missing patches) but is possible, too. Greetings from Bremen hartmut
