I've been through the howtos, I've tried everything in "DNS and Bind" (version 8 though). I've spent a lot of time looking and there seems to be only one howto.
I can't get dig to find anything other than localhost, which is what yast setup.
Are there any resources that any of you can recommend?
You don't need a resource for dig to work. It uses DNS lookup, if your machine is given a nameserver resolv in /etc/resolv. Are you able to connect, and what is your /etc/resolv telling you, and maybe route.
Thanks. I meant "resource" as in book, or howto. I know dig is working fine. It works fine for localhost. I've been working on DNS on my server, and from my server I can't setup a zone that finds that server (from the server). I have been doing this with the server listed first in resolv.conf, along with two nameservers from my ISP. I've never done anything with route. BTW, I've tried a couple of tools to generate zone files from /etc/hosts. Some of them are badly out of date (bind 4) and some of them err on IPV6 def's. None of them give me a working set of files. I have a very simple network and don't understand why I'm having this much trouble. (Am somewhat afraid to wait for an answer/opinion on that matter.
