I am trying to find a Linux based DVD movie player to run on my SuSE 9.1 installation the one provided with the distro is crippled. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Just went through this when I upgraded from 9.0 to 9.1. Easiest was to go to Packman and get all the stuff for MPlayer. I use apt for that, then go find the libdvdcss-1.2.8 file and spend the next two hours watching a new movie. CAVEAT: If you use apt remember to use caps as in 'MPlayer' otherwise packman wont help.
One thing you might consider is to remove any remnants of mplayer which may have been installed from the distro before installing the packman stuff.
Cant hurt! ra
I have also installed and used VideoLan. It solves problems accessing streaming audio from certain online radio broadcasts e.g. www.hughhewitt.com as well as handling some video materials MPlayer doesn't. With both installed, plus Kaffine, xine, RealPlayer, etc. I can now hear and view about anything! Just FYI ... doc
